Three Tonbara Sports Athletes Named to Team Canada for World Athletics Relays

Defending mixed-relay gold medalists Asemota, McCreath, and Leclair head to Botswana

TORONTO / GABORONE — Tonbara Sports & Entertainment is proud to announce that three of its track and field athletes — Duan Asemota, Sadé McCreath, and Marie-Éloïse Leclair — have been named to Team Canada for the World Athletics Relays in Gaborone, Botswana, on May 2-3, 2026.

All three athletes were part of the Canadian squad that won gold in the inaugural mixed 4x100m relay at the 2025 World Relays in Guangzhou, China. They return to the world stage this weekend, with qualification for the 2027 World Championships on the line.

Duan Asemota is Canada's reigning 100m national champion. The Ajax, Ontario native and 2024 Paris Olympian won the 100m title at the 2025 Canadian Track & Field Championships with a time of 10.12 seconds — making him the only Canadian to sweep both sprint titles in 2025. His personal best is 10.03 seconds.

Sadé McCreath is the 2026 Canadian Indoor 60m champion and co-holder of the Canadian 100m national record. The Ajax native tied the national record with a time of 10.95 seconds at the 2025 Bob Vigars Classic — the fastest 100m ever recorded on Canadian soil. She was a Paris 2024 Olympian and helped Canada set the national 4x100m relay record.

Marie-Éloïse Leclair is a Paris 2024 Olympian and Canadian 4x100m national record holder. The Quebec native competed for Simon Fraser University before transferring to Penn State, where she continues to develop as one of Canada's top young sprinters. She was named GNAC Female Athlete of the Year in 2024.

The World Athletics Relays Gaborone 2026 marks the eighth edition of the event, and the first time it will be held in Africa. The top teams will qualify for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in Beijing.
