Tonbara Sports & Entertainment Signs Ottawa Gee-Gees Forward Brock Newton
Three-time national medalist and OUA champion caps decorated U Sports career
TORONTO / MIAMI / NEW YORK — Tonbara Sports & Entertainment is pleased to announce the signing of Brock Newton, a forward who recently completed his collegiate career at the University of Ottawa.
Newton, a 6-7 forward from Fergus, Ontario, helped Ottawa capture three consecutive U SPORTS national bronze medals and an OUA Wilson Cup championship, earning recognition as a 2025-26 OUA All-Star and a 2024-25 U SPORTS Tournament All-Star.
His final season saw him average 17.0 points, 4.9 rebounds, and 2.5 assists per game, starting all 22 regular-season contests. His dominant 2024-25 postseason run included 22 points and 10 rebounds in the U SPORTS bronze-medal victory over UPEI and 16 points and eight rebounds in the Wilson Cup final against Queen's.
Before arriving in Ottawa, Newton played at Bucknell University in NCAA Division I, gaining high-level experience that translated immediately upon his return to Canada. He spent his prep years at Toronto Basketball Academy, where he posted a 25-5 record in tournament play in Florida, and at Academy in London, where he led his OSBA team in scoring with 19.5 points per game.
A Finance major at Ottawa, Newton comes from a basketball family. His older brother, Cole, also starred for the Gee-Gees before signing with the Ottawa BlackJacks in the CEBL. Their father, Jim, played at Wilfrid Laurier in the 1990s. At Centre Wellington District High School in Fergus, Brock earned District MVP honours and won District 10 and CWOSSA championships alongside Cole in 2018.
