Tonbara Sports & Entertainment Signs Ohio State Goalkeeper Maximilian Trejo
Sporting KC Academy graduate led the nation in goals against average and helped Buckeyes reach the College Cup Semifinals.
TORONTO / MIAMI / NEW YORK — Tonbara Sports & Entertainment is pleased to announce the signing of Maximilian Trejo, a goalkeeper who recently completed his college career at Ohio State.
Trejo's 0.49 goals against average in 2024 sets a program record. He led the nation in goals against average with a 10-1-2 record, helping the Buckeyes reach the College Cup Semifinals—only the second time in the program's history.
In the NCAA Tournament third round against Stanford, Trejo saved the first two penalty attempts as Ohio State advanced in a shootout. The Buckeyes' route to the College Cup included an exciting penalty shootout victory over Stanford and a 3-0 win against Wake Forest in the quarterfinals.
Born in Mexico City, Trejo holds dual citizenship in Mexico and the United States. He developed through the Sporting Kansas City Academy, where he trained regularly with the professional first team. He started three games in the USL with Sporting Kansas City II before arriving at Ohio State in 2021.
"Max is an excellent goalkeeper," Ohio State's coaching staff noted upon his arrival. "He is a good shot stopper, has nice feet, and commands his box. His organizational skills are great, and he gives confidence to his entire back line."
"Max has demonstrated his skills at all levels—academy, USL, and NCAA Division I," said Patrik Darabont, Founder & FIFA Agent at Tonbara Sports & Entertainment. "His capacity to excel under pressure makes him an promising professional talent. We are proud to represent him.
