Tonbara Sports & Entertainment Signs Minnesota Duluth Captain MK O'Brien

WCHA Outstanding Student-Athlete of the Year and USA Hockey invitee joins the hockey division.

TORONTO / MIAMI / NEW YORK — Tonbara Sports & Entertainment is pleased to announce the signing of O'Brien, the captain of the University of Minnesota Duluth women's hockey team.

O'Brien, the team's captain, was honoured for her academic achievements with the WCHA Outstanding Student Athlete of the Year award. She is a three-time All-American Scholar, a four-time WCHA Scholar Athlete, and has played 161 games for UMD, tying her for the ninth most in program history.

O'Brien was invited to the USA Hockey 2025 Women's National Team Festival, recognising her abilities at the international level. In 2024-25, O'Brien skated in all 39 games for the Bulldogs, scoring seven goals and adding 18 assists for a career-best 25 points. She also scored both a power play goal and a shorthanded goal, and had five games with multiple points.

A native of Wilbraham, Massachusetts, O'Brien is currently pursuing her MBA with a 3.69 GPA after earning her undergraduate degree with a 3.9 GPA. Before attending UMD, she was selected three times for the USA Hockey National Development Camp and was a two-time New York state champion, as well as a state champion at Connecticut and Massachusetts at Selects Academy at Bishop Kearney.
